Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg responds to US President Donald Trump's threat to curb social media.
"Censorship of the platform would not be the right image for a government concerned with censorship," he said. Zuckerberg said this in an interview with Fox News Channel.
Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, according to a Reuters report. This would give regulators the power to take legal action against companies like Facebook and Twitter. Before signing the executive order, Trump called social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, "uncontrollable forces."
"I need to understand what they really want to do," Zuckerberg said. But in general, I think the government is choosing to censor the platform because they are concerned about censorship. I don't think it's a perfect reflection. '
Section 230 of the Communication Density Act gives social networking platforms the opportunity to defend themselves. Section 230 of the law states that social networks are not generally liable for any posts made by their users, but can remove 'Good Samaritan blocking' - such as pornography, harassment, or violence.
The executive order states that if any social network edits users' posts, this legal obligation does not apply. The order calls on Congress to enact legislation to "remove or change" Article 230.
